About Me

My name is Taylor Smith.  I am a music instructor at Cuyamaca College (located in El Cajon, CA).  I earned a Bachelor of Musical Arts degree from BYU-Idaho (Rexburg, ID), and a Master of Arts in Music (with an emphasis in Historical Performance Practices) from Claremont Graduate University (Claremont, CA).  I recently completed the coursework toward a PhD in Musicology from CGU.  If you want to visit my personal website you can do so here.  I also have a personal blog, mostly about random stuff, accessible here.

I was “born and raised” a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  I have always struggled with discussing the Gospel with friends.  I actually enjoy talking about the Gospel, and religion in general, but have never felt comfortable initiating the conversation.  I decided to start this blog to provide an avenue for me to share my thoughts about the Gospel with others.  I suppose it is here as an “ice breaker.”  I also hope that my own testimony will grow as I study the scriptures and the Prophets more deeply.

Welcome.

    Taylor,

I really enjoyed your piece about the desert. Actually I was searching for a good Joshua Tree photo do decorate my computer screen. Although I didn’t grow up in the sesert, I’ve always loved the time I spent there and actually taught for one year at a desert high school.

I do hope you keep the scripture references going. Although I’m a rather devout Catholic, I really enjoyed your connection of the desert to scripture. It stirred some familiar thoughts.

I hope you don’t mind a Catholic fan of your writing.

    Peace and Blessings,
    Michael
